Elon Musk’s SpaceX has achieved another significant milestone in its quest to making space travel commonplace. Just recently, the company’s latest Starship prototype, SN15, successfully landed after a high-altitude test flight. This marked the first successful landing and recovery of a Starship spacecraft without any major issues. The prototype ascended to a height of approximately 10 kilometres before it systematically shut down its engines and began a free-falling descent back to Earth. Prior to landing, the prototype reignited its engines to slow down and was able to successfully land upright on the landing pad at Boca Chica, Texas. The successful landing is crucial as it demonstrated the spacecraft’s ability to safely return to Earth, a necessary requirement for reusable spacecraft.
